Coral Springs, Florida, is a unique master-planned city that was developed by a division of Westinghouse, and officially chartered in 1963 for 50,000 residents. But during the 1970's through the 1990's, the popular town grew rapidly, with the population swelling to 134,394 during the 2020 census. Located in Broward County, twenty miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale, Coral Springs has been recognized for its overall livability, low crime rate, aesthetic appeal (due to strict building codes), and family-friendly orientation. The growing city has added several public schools, malls, shopping centers and parks, but contrary to its name, there are no springs located here. The Walk offers open-air dining, shopping and entertainment in the heart of Coral Springs. The Coral Springs Center for the Arts provides concerts, dance and family productions throughout the year. The city boasts more than 50 parks including a skate park and and a water park. The Sportsplex has a jogging path, dog park, an aquatic center, tennis courts and an ice rink. The "Our Town" festival has been held every year since 1979, and offers a car show, carnival, food and games, and is attended by more than 100,000 people.
